Reggie White honored with helmet decal QUOTE The Vols Saturday will honor the late Reggie White, who died Sunday at 43 years old, with a decal on their helmets and the coaches' caps. The decal features an orange cross with the number 92, White's number both at UT and during his professional football days I can't believe there are people actually making a stink about the cross on the helmet!! Someone wrote into the paper yesterday and said," it was a conflict of church and state, Tennessee was a state school and it offended them because they were jewish." TVR1 |

Are there any members on the team or staff that objected?
That should be the only question. |

I'll tell you how I feel:
Reggie White was a great Vol, Reggie White was a great Christian, Honoring the man apart from his faith would be like honoring him apart from his athletic ability. Now, let me make this clear, so as not to have anyone unclear about my thoughts; any Jew, Budhist, Muslim, or any other faith could have been honored in the same fashion, (star of David or so on) and I wouldn't be offended. But; that wouldn't have been a problem, it's only when it's a Christian being honored that we see protests in this country, eg., California is spending several million dollars to remove a cross from all of their state logos, because it violates the 'so called' separation between church and state (which does not exist, nor even implied in the constitution) but the state has implemented a high school course that teaches Islam in order that students will be more tolerant of other religions. Go darned figure. So, any one of any faith who dislikes how our guys honored Reggie can stick their (place religious symbol, Koran, Talmut or whatever here) up their hateful, ignorant, politically correct a$$. Was that clear, or do I need to clarify? This post has been edited by OldVol: Jan 2 2005, 06:55 PM |
